Piolo asks public to respect his privacy

Posted in ABS-CBN, Actor, Actress, Anne Curtis, Best Actor, Best Actress, Celibrity Couple, Entertainment, Gay World, Showbiz News, Singer with tags , , , , , , , on December 17, 2011 by Eduard Orgel

MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) – Actor Piolo Pascual has asked the public to respect his privacy, saying his break-up with actress-television host KC Concepcion is a “very sensitive issue.”

Pascual arrived in Manila from Japan on Monday.

The actor refused to comment on Concepcion’s “tell-all” interview on “The Buzz” aired Sunday, where she confirmed the split.

“I don’t think I’ve anything else to say. KC has already said her piece. Hayaan na lang muna natin doon kasi it’s a very sensitive issue. Hindi naman biro ang pinagdaanan naming dalawa,” he told ABS-CBN News.

Pascual asked everyone to understand what he and Concepcion are going through.

“Ang hinihingi ko na lang ay pag-iintindi sa mga tao. Hindi madali ang proseso. Hindi rin madali yung maraming nakaabang, maraming naghihintay at maraming nakikialam. Ang sa akin, hayaan na lang muna kami, especially si Kristina. It’s not easy,” he pleaded.

Pascual also asked for understanding, saying other people are also being affected

On Sunday, Concepcion turned emotional as she finally admitted that she and Pascual have called it quits.

The actress, who chose not to disclose the real reason behind their separation, hinted that she is not the one that Pascual needs in his life.

I am not a fan of Piolo or KC Concepcion

by LosAngelesViewer on Mon, 12/12/2011 – 08:52

I am not a fan of Piolo or KC, but I am a regular viewer of TFC. I was very disgusted by KC’s public video drama that I had to register for an ABS-CBN account to express my views. Let me put the bottomline up front: who cares if Piolo is gay?? So what?? He’s been in the business for so many years, and I’ve never heard of anything negative he did towards other people. He’s kind, down to earth, and sincerely humble. Now with KC. Did you really have to go on TV and cry over your breakup like you were wronged with gravely unacceptable acts towards a human being??? Hindi naman di ba? Mag-boyfriend lang kayo, hindi naman kayo mag-asawa. It’s normal for anyone who goes into a relationship to be broken-hearted by a breakup. Naturingan pa namang edukada ka, pero you are so needy of attention and sympathy from the public na gusto mo kaawaan ka, gusto mo ikaw ang api, that you had to cover your ground right away para sa yo mapunta ang awa ng tao. Tell me, who among the other celebrities na mag-bf pa lang who cried on TV to expose the drama of their breakup? Not Karylle, nor Anne Curtis, or Sarah, Kim-Chiu, Shaina, Mariel, Bianca, not even the likes of Pia Guanio, nor even Liz Uy. The only one who was palengkera and explosive in each of her relationships was Cristine Reyes. And then here you are… taking simple breakups to a new low in show business. See, people as highly educated as you can see right through you. Your video was VERY TACKY. It was a tactical attempt for you to win people’s sympathy dahil alam mong mahal ng tao si Piolo. You know that you do not have the masa’s hearts kasi marami ang naartehan sa yo. UBOD ka ng arte, I remember when bago pa lang kayo ni Piolo and you were both singing a song together, and para kang bulate turning left and right and waiting for Piolo to hold and put his arms around you while you sang. Problem is, hindi naman touchy feely si Piolo, nor any of the other leading men you worked with. Kasi, gentleman sila lahat. Whereas you’re the type who wants to be touched and hugged all the time on TV. Also, you talk SOOO much! SERIOUSLY, our household could not be more annoyed of how you cut in each and every time on the Buzz to say your piece. You just have to say something every freakin time! You’re a self-righteous miss-know-it-all who p***s off the sanity out of our minds!! I hope this comment will not be removed. I pay for TFC and I have the right to be heard. I am not attacking KC personally… I’m just saying the truth about how she saturates and annoys the viewers with her too aggressive ways. You are IN OUR FACE all the time. You are like the Kardashians in terms of media over-exposure and seriously, we do not need to hear any of you and your drama, especially ones that should be kept personal. I really am upset over your endless attempts to get attention towards you, and this breakup video broke the camel’s back for me. People should see this is EXACTLY the attention you wanted. I would actually be relieved if you followed your mom’s footsteps and transferred over to TV5 because we would appreciate to have a loong break from everything KC. Just had enough of it!!!

KC should talk to Carmina

by bongvr on Thu, 12/01/2011 – 04:12

If you look back and try to recall, few years back- when people were asking Carmina Villaroel what was the problem (with her and Rustom), her responses were almost exactly like KC’s today; “Its hard to talk”..”Mahirap makasakit”, “Sa amin na lang”…remember?
history unfortunately repeating itself? Poor KC (or on the hindsight – - lucky her!)

On the otherhand, I cant wrap my head around the fact that Sharon has been in the business for many years, and she has no idea (or close people around her) the real score with Piolo? At least half of the country knows about it .Oh oh oh, mga gay protectors, bago kayo umalma –This is not a gay issue, and anyhing wrong with his sexual preference- the ONLY issue here is the poor girls heart, this a plain and simple case of Betrayal, Lies and Self-preservation.

PIOLO – Take Advantage of this Opportunity NOW

by bzamora on Wed, 11/30/2011 – 04:04

PIOLO – Take advantage of this opportunity right now.
Take the risk of coming out! Tell the whole world about your sexuality!
Life is a risk but that’s why we are here on earth to learn about ourselves
and experience the truth.

By coming out you will:

1. Be the Hero of all closeted gays not only in the Philippines but the whole world.
Forget Tom Cruise and John Travolta – they only care about their religion – Scientology.
More closeted gays will come out because of you and they will all be respected because
you are a very respectable human being.

2. Show the world that not all gays are swiss cheese, mamon or sirena ng dalampasigan.
We are also masculine, respectable, proud, dignified, professionals and have the need
to love just like everyone. We want respect and not laughing stock or butt jokes of
the media, friends and even families.

3. Stop bullying gays among teenagers in private and public schools. This will take time
but you will be the pioneer and your name will be in the books of local schools as being
respectable – like Rosa Park of the Civil Rights movement in the 60′s when she
sat in the front seat of the public bus when only whites are allowed to do that.

4. Have the understanding and respect of Sharon Cuneta’s family. They are only waiting
for you to do that (OPEN UP). KC will get over it soon. You’ve already used her. Don’t
it again to other girls, OK?

5. Branch out in your career as the First Actor and Celebrity who embraced the true
meaning of Sexuality. Forget ABS-CBN’s Manahan. They only care about money and business.
You should care about other gays and yourself. Isn’t that what Christianity is all about, anyway. right?
You will not only be a different actor but will have speaking engagement all over the world
for speaking out against Gay Discrimination in the Philippine society.

6. Stand out as a Role Model for everybody, the way Jesus Christ meant us all to be.
Jesus loved everybody even the prostitutes. I’m sure He loves closeted gays if he was alive
today. He was non-judgemental.

Things are changing by the minute. Gays are now accepted in the Military with open arms especially
in the USA. Soon it will be implemented in the Philippines. Gay marriage is now legal in several States.

Being gay is not a choice in life. We were born this way. I’m sure if you had a choice when you were
born, you would have chosen to be straight so it would be a lot easier to live through life. But God made
you gay because He wants you to make A DIFFERENCE. YOU ARE DIFFERENT. YOU ARE A ROLE MODEL. YOU ARE
HANDSOME, RESPECTABLE and in the “Limelite/Highlite” of your career. Take advantage of it.

GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS YOU.

You need all the help you can get from your friends–Mr. Manahan, ABS-CBN, etc. Good luck.

by SoCal on Mon, 11/28/2011 – 15:28

To Piolo…whether or not you decide to come out of the closet anytime soon, you should have NEVER put KC in this position knowing your TRUTH. And, if you’re smart, you probably should NEVER put another female in this position again.

If you decide to stay in the public eye, please stay single until your ready to be in an honest relationship. I completely empathize with you Piolo. I know how it feels as I was in your position not too long ago. I was married with children. Everyone has to go through their own journey of coming out. I get it. There will be hills and valleys brother. It’s hard, I know. But until you’re ready to be honest with yourself, you will never feel complete. The sooner you come to terms with your sexuality, the sooner you will actually feel a sense of wholeness.

Try to use this opportunity KC has given to you be honest with yourself. You will be surprised how much support and love you will be blessed with. It is the most liberating feeling to finally be free of all the worry that is constantly burdening you.

Unfortunately, from reading comments just on this blog alone and as an outsider looking in, it appears that gay people are looked upon as second class citizens in the Philippines and are fodder and used as punchlines for a majority of the people there.

Just know that things have changed and are changing more and more everyday as evidenced by more and more A-Listers of the world coming out as gay. You are not alone my friend.

BUT, with ONE sentence coming out of your mouth, you alone can change the way people perceive gays in the Philippines. With all the strides being made in the world, you alone can be the one to stop the prejudice and BS that gays have long endured in the Philippines.

For KC, time heals all wounds and you will one day find the true love you’re searching for. No doubt. Good Luck to the both of you. I wish you both peace of mind and love in the future. xo

“Bagong Hari”: A lost gem of a film retrieved, March 12 at CCP!

BY: DENNIS ADOBAS

Mario O’Hara’s “Bagong Hari”, filmed in 1985 to launch Dan Alvaro to action stardom will finally be screened at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Tanghalang Manuel Conde on Saturday, March 12, 2pm. as part of the ongoing series “Overlooked Films, Underrated Filmmakers” by the Society of Filipino Archivists for Film (SOFIA).

The film starred Dan Alvaro, Robert Arevalo, Joel Torre, Carmi Martin, Perla Bautista, ElviraManahan (her first and last film!), Celso Ad. Castillo, Ruel Vernal and other supports.

I chanced upon this rave review of “Bagong Hari” by Jojo Devera in Sari-Saring Sineng Pinoy.  May I quote:  “Bagong Hari (Cineventures, Inc.) is the picture by which all other films of 1986 is measured.  The film is director Mario O’Hara’s best work showcasing a very exciting performance by Dan Alvaro.  Blessed with a good physique and strong features, his characterization of Addon, the cunning street fighter caught in a political power struggle, is memorable for its raw power.  He is competent in scenes that call for bone breaking fist fights as well as scenes that require toned down emotions.  Underneath a cool exterior, the sheer energy expelled by Alvaro in the film’s vicious fight scenes takes the notion of acting with sincere cruelty to a new ecstatic high.

In ‘Bagong Hari’, Addon becomes the symbol of social rage.  He is an angry young man fighting for survival in a community that lives by the gun, where power bestows the privilege of abuse on a select few.  In Addon’s chaotic world, the police are no longer friends but foes in the service of corrupt officials.  Addon is introduced as a diligent riverboat worker with simple pleasures except for Isagani Labrador (Robert Arevalo), his politically well-connected father.  Addon’s world revolves pretty much around his environment in the slums.

When his mother (Perla Bautista) falls ill, the need for money to settle a huge hospital bill forces Addon into a criminal mission that puts him at odds with the town’s political kingpins.  Because of his skill at weapons, he is admired by the powers that be.  In the process, his combat achievements earn the wrath of the Governor Nenuca Lailles’ (Elvira Manahan) murderous son, Rex (Joel Torre).  Suddenly, he finds himself a pawn in the fight between two warring parties for the governor’s office. At one point, he is forced to shoot his father, who had been branded as an opportunist by the enemy camp.  To cover up the crime, Addon is ordered salvaged but the plan fails.  Addon escapes eventually destroying his opponents by fist, gun and knife!

Director Mario O’Hara and screenwriter Frank G. Rivera have created a fresh character who has neither the wealth nor the influence to assert social control but who has the ability to define his terms against those who trample his domain.

‘Bagong Hari’ is difficult not to like.  It has some of the most haunting images in recent movie memory.  One of the film’s most striking compositions shows Addon burying his mother by the roadside, owing to their poor state.  As he digs a hole in the ground, the camera shows the city lights glittering like gems in the distance.  This particular image is one of the film’s most interesting allusions to the idea of the city as agent of seduction and death, the city lures people on the promise of financial gain only to leave them in poverty and despair.

The use of such expressive images is the key to the film’s effectivity.  Mario O’Hara’s direction is outstanding.  His clever use of environment, particularly the riverbank dwellings and the ice factory which he turns into a visual maze is highly effective in creating feelings of fear and suspense.

For sheer visual excitement, ‘Bagong Hari’ is hard to match.  One gets the impression that both ‘Condemned’ and ‘Bulaklak Sa City Jail’ (two O’Hara pictures from 1984) were just sketches in preparation for this thriller.

The cinematography by brothers Johnny and Romulo Araojo is superb.  Antonio Aguilar’s music is imaginatively absorbing and the film’s editing is just brilliant.  To pass judgment on ‘Bagong Hari’ for the sheer aspect of its violence is unfortunate.  Considering its unique qualities and taking its story and direction as a whole, the film merits serious consideration even from the most discriminating Filipino moviegoer.”

Will Ernie Garcia soon become the Philippines’ answer to America’s Tom Jones?

Posted in Actor, Actress, CCP, GMA network, International Singer with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 5, 2011 by Eduard Orgel

BY: DENNIS ADOBAS

Actor-singer-visual artist Ernie Garcia is lately having his hands full with assignments.  The week after his pre-Valentine concert at Richmonde Hotel he got a call from GMA-7 and was told to report to the story conference of a new teleserye, “My Lover, My Wife”.  After another week, he was already in the Kapuso studio taping the first episode!

“My Lover, My Wife”, featuring Maxene Magalona, Luis Alandy, Nadine Samonte and Marco Alcaraz, is being directed by Joselito Altarejos.  Ernie plays supportive and understanding father to Maxene.

The singer-actor is now gathering materials for a new album.  Upon the advice of Repertory Philippines’ stage director Freddie Santos, Ernie intends to record songs along the beat and rhythm of the R&B, country and rock-and-roll hits by Tom Jones, the Grammy award-winning international recording artist from South Wales.

“I must say it’s a brilliant idea!”, quips Ernie.  “Until now, we still don’t have an established local Tom Jones clone.  Tom Jones is such a marvelous performer with a powerful voice!  I like his style.  I  used to open my concert repertoire with his ‘Kiss’ complete with the signature Tom Jones bumps and grinds!”

Freddie Santos was Ernie’s buddy at Repertory when he appeared in stage plays many years back, shuttling between Rep and Teatro Pilipino under National Artist for Theater Rolando Tinio.
He was the one who conceptualized Ernie’s February concert which had for a theme “love in different languages.

Ernie is contemplating to avail of the songwriting skills of TV host-comedian Joey de Leon.  “I like Joey’s contemporary danceable songs with sexy and naughty lyrics”, says Ernie.

But does Joey still have time to compose new songs, what with his daily shows and travels?

“Well, I can settle for his old compositions as long as they fall under Tom Jones’ category!  Pero ‘wag naman ‘yong lumang-luma”, Ernie says.

Would he mind being called a “Tom Jones copycat”?

“I wouldn’t mind at all.  That’s what I really want to become!”, seriously replies Ernie.

The special screening of Mario O’Hara’s 1985 masterpiece “Bagong Hari” starring Dan Alvaro in the title role scheduled last Saturday, March 5, at the Tanghalang Manuel Conde of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, was called off due to some power supply problem caused by a busted transformer.  All the establishments and offices within the CCP Complex were affected.

All shows scheduled for that day were cancelled.  “ZsaZsa Zaturnnah…Ze Musikal..Back with a Vengeance!” which was supposed to play at 3pm and 8pm had to be cancelled too.  Chris Millado, the musical’s director was at the gate personally saying “Sorry!” to the guests.

O’Hara came very early, and so did Alvaro.  His niece Glaiza de Castro was already on the way to the venue with her parents, brother Alchris Galura and family. Lance Raymundo (who playedEmilio Aguinaldo in O’Hara’s Cinemalaya film ‘Ang Paglilitis ni Andres Bonifacio’) also came very early to give Direk Mario O’Hara some moral support.  Media practitioners Art Tapalla, Alwyn Ignacio, Noel Mallonga, UPFI’s Nonoy Lauzon and many others also came only to be told about the postponement.

“Bagong Hari” screening has been rescheduled on March 12, 2pm, Saturday.

First-of-its-kind collaborative project using EMC technology solutions to help store, protect and manage CCP’s complete audio-visual archive                     dating back as far back as 1970

MAKATI CITY, Philippines – 02 March 2011 – EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines(CCP) today announced the launch of a nationwide digitization project to convert and integrate CCP’s entire audio-visual collection of Philippine arts and culture into digital and emergent forms, for the preservation of the nation’s treasures for the use of future generations to come.

The digitization project will involve storing, protecting, managing and making accessible on EMC information infrastructure systems CCP Library’s vast collection of national, cultural and historical materials which currently consists approximately 40,000 hours of audio, 30,000 hours of tapes from its film archive, 6,500 photos, 28,000 photographic slides and at least 56,000 manuscripts of literary works. Part of its program is to also digitally capture 1,500 art and 1,500 historical pieces for future content migration.

“Poetry, film, music, visual art and expressions of humanity are all part of a country’s national, cultural and historical heritage and, yet, many of these critical documents and cultural artifacts are at risk of disappearing without the right information infrastructuresystems,” say David Webster, President of EMC in South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand.  “EMC recognizes and supports the protection of such important heritage of the Philippines for the enjoyment and appreciation of future generations of Filipinos.”

In supporting CCP’s vision and far-sightedness on the importance of preserving the nation’s heritage, EMC has been closely collaborating with the CCP team and providing the necessary EMC products and technologies, including training support, to start the project.

”EMC’s collaboration with CCP is a natural fit with our core business and expertise around storing, protecting and managing critical digital information assets,” say Ronnie Latinazo, Country Manager of EMC Philippines. “It has been a rewarding challenge to help CCP create a virtual and interactive environment to make information on Philippines’ rich cultural past available and accessible to everyone. This is EMC’s way of giving back to the community after having operated in the Philippines for the past 10 years.”

The CCP was established by the late President Ferdinand Marcos in 1969 through Executive Order No. 30 to preserve Filipino arts and culture, as well as promote the development and appreciation of national arts and culture. Over the years, the documentation of cultural performances and growing repository of materials from other art forms were accumulated to provide entertainment and educational materials to the public.

“We commend EMC’s generosity and dedication as a responsible corporate citizen. CCP is honored to be a beneficiary of this digital preservation initiative. It shows EMC’s spirit and vision of making technology a vital tool in building a better Philippines and outstanding Filipinos. This partnership will benefit not only this generation but the youth of the future as well,” said Dr. Raul Sunico, President, Cultural Center of the Philippines.

The Manila Chamber Orchestra Foundation, in partnership with the Filipinas Heritage Library, closes its “Young Artists Series 2011” with the performance of one of the country’s most promising young tenors today, Nohmer Nival slated  on March 17, 2011, 7:00 p.m. at the  Filipinas Heritage Library (formerly Nielson Tower),  Ayala Triangle,  Makati City.  This concert is made possible with the support of BusinessWorld, Highlife and Lyric Piano.

Nohmer is winner of the 2007 National Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA).  With his beautiful tone, liquidity of phrasing and most of all, his inept musicality, Nohmer has performed in most of the major productions produced by the UST Conservatory of Music including the zarzuelas “Bukas May Liwanag” by Dr. Rose Ruertollano,  “Something to Crow About” by National Artist for Literature Dr. Alejandro Roces,  Peter Illych Tchaikovsky’s opera “Eugene Onegin” and Johann Strauss’ “ Die Fledermaus”.

Nohmer continues to hone his artistry through attending workshops and masterclasses held in the country including those given by American voice pedadogue Dr. Marcin Keenza, Austrian-based Filipino tenor Abdul Candao, Italian tenor Gian Luca Pasolini, and the sensational Filipino tenor, Arthur Espiritu.

Nohmer is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance under the tutelage of renowned tenor Randy Gilongo at the UST Conservatory of Music.   A former member of the UST Liturgikon Vocal Ensemble, he regularly performs at Paco Park and at the Concert at the Park.

For this concert, Nohmer will perform music by Rossini, Tosti, Vaughn, William and Donizetti.

For tickets, please call TicketWorld at 891-9999, MCO Foundation at 750-0768 or 0920-9540053 and Filipinas Heritage Library at 892-1801 or 0927-5612413.

(The MCO Foundation is a non-stock, non-profit, 25-year old organization; dedicated to the promotion of cultural arts. Its “Young Artists Series” is one of the Foundation’s programs which aim to give the experience, endorsement, and exposure to young and highly-talented artists through performance opportunities.)###
